ถ้าคุณเป็นอีกคนที่เคยดูวิดีโอไวรัลแนวบันเทิงอันมีจุดขายอยู่ที่เสียงพากษ์สำเนียงเอเชียแท้ แน่นอนว่าคุณเป็นหนึ่งในผู้ชมกว่า 7 ล้านคนของเพจดังอย่าง Epic Asian ที่สามารถสร้างฐานแฟนถึงหลักแสนได้ในระยะเวลาเพียงไม่กี่เดือนเท่านั้น วิดีโอตัวดังที่ทำให้หลายคนรู้จักเพจนี้เห็นจะเป็น Crazy Rich Asian in 2 Minutes ว่าด้วยการเล่าสรุปรวบตึงเนื้อหาในภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวู้ดที่ประกอบด้วยทีมงานชาวเอเชียทั้งหมด แต่ความโดดเด่นอยู่ที่เสียงพากษ์สำเนียงเอเชียจอมขยี้ที่หยิบยกเอาสำเนียงบ้านเกิดของผู้ก่อตั้งเพจมาแปรรูปให้เกิดเป็นความบันเทิงรูปแบบใหม่ที่มีแฟนเพจชาวเอเชียติดตามมากที่สุด รวมถึงแฟนโซเชียลชาวไทยด้วย โว้กจึงต่อสายถึงแอดมินเพจนี้เพื่อเจาะลึกถึงทุกแง่มุมในฐานะชาวเอเชียของเขา

 

 

"ก่อนอื่นเลย ขอบคุณสำหรับการสัมภาษณ์ในครั้งนี้นะครับ ผมรู้สึกดีใจมากที่คนไทยชอบวิดีโอของผมขนาดนี้ ขออนุญาติแนะนำตัวก่อนเลยนะครับ ผมเป็นชาวมาเลเซียอายุ 23 ย่าง 24 ในปีนี้ ตอนนี้ศึกษาอยู่ที่ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ณ ตอนนี้ผมดูแลเพจนี้เพียงคนเดียวครับ ผมชอบทานบะหมี่เกี๊ยว ข้าวมันไก่ และผัดไทย ผมเป็นคนชอบดูหนัง ช่วงที่เรียนอยู่มัธยมปลายผมจะไปดูหนังที่โรงหนังแทบทุกสัปดาห์ ไม่ว่าหนังจะดีหรือไม่ดีก็ตาม ผมชอบอะไรที่เกี่ยวกับคอมพิวเตอร์ด้วย มักจะอ่านอะไรที่เกี่ยวกับ CPU, การ์ดจอ, อะไรที่อาจจะดูน่าเบื่อสำหรับคนทั่วไปสักหน่อย พูดง่าย ๆ คือผมเป็นคนเนิร์ดนี่เอง (หัวเราะ)" เจ้าของเพจ Epic Asian ผู้ไม่ยอมเอ่ยชื่อเสียงเรียงนามแนะนำตัวอย่างตรงไปตรงมาและน่ารัก หนุ่มคนนี้ยังบอกอีกว่ามีแผนที่จะเล่าเรื่องของตัวเองให้กับแฟนเพจฟังในอนาคตด้วย

 

 

"แรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างเพจของผมเริ่มจากความชอบในการดูหนัง และชอบเทคโนโลยีของผม และเกิดความรู้สึกอยากที่จะถ่ายทอดออกไปให้ทุกคนได้เห็นเหมือนกัน แต่เนื้อหาของหนังบางเรื่อง และเทคโนโลยีคอมพิวเตอร์เป็นสิ่งที่เข้าใจยากสำหรับหลายๆ คนนั้น ผมจึงคิดว่ามันคงน่าสนใจดีถ้าผมสามารถอธิบายเรื่องพวกนี้ให้เข้าใจง่าย และใส่อารมณ์ขันในการเล่าเข้าไปด้วย สำหรับภาษาอังกฤษที่ผมพูดในวิดีโอจะเป็นภาษาอังกฤษสำเนียงแบบคนมาเลเซีย หรือสิงคโปร์ โดยมีการใช้ภาษาจีนท้องถิ่นผสมเข้าไปในบางช่วง ซึ่งแท้จริงแล้วผมแค่นำเอาเอกลักษณ์ถิ่นกำเนิดของผมมาใช้เท่านั้น ผมแอบตกใจเหมือนกันที่คนในแถบเอเชียอาคเนย์ส่วนใหญ่ รวมถึงประเทศไทยดูจะชอบมันมาก แต่ต้องบอกก่อนว่า ผมไม่ได้มีเจตนาที่จะทำร้าย ไม่ให้เกียรติใคร หรือตัวภาษาอังกฤษนะครับ ผมรักภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งเป็นภาษาที่ผมใช้มาตลอดทั้งชีวิต ในอีกนัยหนึ่งความตั้งใจของผมก็คืออยากจะกระตุ้นให้คนเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษ กล้าที่จะพูด และเชิดชูความเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของท้องถิ่นคุณเองโดยที่ไม่ต้องอายครับ"

 

 

และเมื่อเราถามถึงกระแสตอบรับที่ได้จากการทำวิดีโอนี้เกินคาดขนาดไหนจึงได้คำตอบว่า "เสียงตอบรับคงวัดได้จากวิดีโอ Crazy Rich Asian ซึ่งได้รับยอดชมไปมากที่สุด (มากกว่า 6.8 ล้านวิว) และได้รับการคอมเมนต์อย่างมหาศาล ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าก็มีทั้งกระแสที่เป็นบวกและลบนะครับ เริ่มจากฟีดแบกที่เป็นบวกข้อแรกเลยก็คงเป็นจำนวนผู้ชมที่มหาศาลมากสำหรับผม เริ่มแรกผมทำวิดีโอตัวนี้มาเพื่อให้คนมาเลเซียและสิงคโปร์ดู ผมตกใจมากที่มีคนดูทั้งจากประเทศไทย เวียดนาม พม่า ไปจนถึงแคนาดา ซึ่งไปไกลกว่าที่ผมคิดไว้มาก ส่วนใหญ่คนจะฟีดแบ็กว่าภาษาอังกฤษในวิดีโอตลกดี มีเนื้อหาที่เข้าใจง่าย และเข้าใจถึงเจตนาของผม บางคนเห็นด้วยกับผมในส่วนของ Moral of The Story ผมได้รับข้อความอินบ็อกซ์ให้กำลังใจจากคนในหลายประเทศรอบโลกว่าพวกเขาชอบสิ่งที่ผมทำ และอยากให้ทำวิดีโอออกมาเรื่อยๆ ส่วนคอมเมนต์ในแง่ลบก็มีครับอย่างเช่นบางคนไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วยกับบางประเด็นที่ผมพูดถึงในวิดีโอ บ้างก็ว่าผมพูดแรงเกินไปก็มีครับ ผมถือว่ากระแสตอบรับทั้งดีและไม่ดีเหล่านี้เป็นเครื่องช่วยนำทางให้ว่าคนสนใจอะไรเป็นพิเศษ โดยรวมผมคิดว่าผู้ชมส่วนใหญ่ทราบดีว่าสิ่งที่ผมพูดในวิดีโอ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นวิธีการพูดของผม หรือมุขตลกของผมเป็นเพียงการนำเสนอความสนุกและความบันเทิงเท่านั้น ความรู้สึกเวลาที่คนส่งข้อความมาชื่นชมและขอให้ผมทำต่อไปเพราะมันช่วยให้พวกเขาอารมณ์ดีขึ้น ทำให้วันของพวกเขาดีขึ้น เป็นแรงผลักดันให้ผมอยากทำต่อไป"

 

 

"ไม่ว่าคุณจะทำอะไรก็ตาม ผมคิดว่าคุณควรจะต้องใส่ใจและให้ความสำคัญกับสิ่งที่คุณกำลังสร้าง ตัวอย่างเช่น คุณไม่ควรทำวิดีโอเกี่ยวกับการทำผัดไทยขึ้นมา เพียงเพราะคุณแค่พยายามทำตามเทรนด์ หรือคนกำลังสนใจเรื่องนั้นอยู่เท่านั้น บางทีหากคุณลองทำซุปต้มยำขึ้นมาใหม่ คนอาจจะชอบมันเช่นเดียวกันก็ได้ พูดง่ายๆ คือคุณต้องมีความอดทนและหลงใหลในสิ่งที่คุณกำลังทำ เมื่อคุณใส่ใจในสิ่งที่คุณสร้าง สุดท้ายแล้วคนจะเริ่มให้ความสนใจ และพวกเขาก็จะใส่ใจในสิ่งนั้นด้วยเช่นเดียวกัน เพจ Epic Asian เปลี่ยนชีวิตผมไปเลย เพราะผมค่อนข้างยุ่งกับเรื่องสอบ ในขณะเดียวกันก็ต้องพยายามอัพเดตเนื้อหาของเพจทางเฟสบุ๊ก และยูทูปในเวลาเดียวกัน นอกจากนั้นผมก็ต้องทำอย่างอื่นให้สุดยอดไปด้วย เพราะผมคือ สุดยอดคนเอเชีย (Epic Asian) นั่นเอง"

It only took a few months for this genius to grow the followers from hundreds to hundred thousands on Facebook, that’s why we call him genius. The unique narrative story in Asian accent is everything here. And this is the conversation of Vogue Thailand and this Epic one!

 

V: We’d love to know more about people behind our favourite page.

E: First thing first, thank you for the interview. I'm really grateful that Thai people enjoy my videos so much! I'm 24 this year. I come from Malaysia. I study in Australia. I manage this page by myself right now. I love to eat "wantan mee", "chicken rice" and "Pad Thai". I love to watch movies. I would go to the cinema like almost every week back when I was in high school, whether the movie is good or bad. I also love computers. I actually spend a lot of time reading about different processor speed, graphical processing unit.... boring stuff. So technically I'm a nerd (LOL) As for what I'm currently doing in life, I'm just a uni student. I intend to elaborate further in future videos, if my viewers are keen :D Oh, and many people think I look too young for my age. It is a good and bad thing at the same time I guess hahaha

 

V: How did you begin Epic Asian? Where’s the idea came from?

E: The fact that some movies and computer technology are so confusing to many is pretty unfortunate. Think about it, every time when you watch a movie or use your smartphone, haven't you at least once wondered: "how did all these things happen, is it magic?" I cannot imagine a life without movies. I also cannot imagine a life without Internet or smartphones nowadays. Well, I just thought that it would be interesting that maybe, if I could explain them in a simple way, and add in my personal humour at the same time.

 

As for the "English" I'm speaking, it is really just Malaysian-style/ Singaporean-style English, with additional Chinese dialects here and there. I'm really just embracing my roots, and I'm surprised that many people  in South-East Asia and Thailand love it! Hahaha I need to clarify that I mean no harm or disrespect to anyone and the English language. I love English. I've been using English all my life. In a sense, I guess my motive is to encourage people to learn & speak English and embrace your own dialect without being embarrassed.

 

V: How’s the feedback on the video so far? We believe there must be both positive and negative comments. Can you share both sides of those?

E: Okay, let's talk about the Crazy Rich Asian video which attracted the most views (6.8 million ++) and comments so far.

 

Positive

- the video was actually aimed at Malaysians and Singaporeans. I was very surprised to see people from Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and all the way to Canada reacting to the video.

- people who find the English funny mostly say that they find it easy to understand/ it is how they speak etc.

- people who agree with  the "moral of the story", just happen to agree with me

- I receive many DMs from people all over the world telling me to keep up the good work!

 

Negative

- some people disagree with my points raised in the video. (LOL)

- some people call me salty

 

I take both positive & negative comments as guidance as to what people are interested in etc. Overall, I believe most of my viewers know that everything I say in the video (the way I speak, my jokes) are for comedic and entertainment purposes.

 

V: What is the key success of Epic Asian?

E: No matter what you do, I guess you really have to care about the stuffs you're creating. For example, you cannot follow the trend and make Pad Thai noodle just because many people like it now. How about, you invent Tom-yum soup, maybe people will like it too? In other words, you need to have the patience and passion in the stuffs you're making. When you care about your content, eventually people will take notice and care about it too.

 

V: Does Epic Asian change your life?

E: Yes, because I'm getting busy with exams and I need to update Epic Asian FB and Youtube. And then, I need to excel in "everything else", because I'm Epic Asian (LOL) On a more serious note, the feeling when people send you DMs to keep up the good work because it "cheers them up", "made my day", "please make more" is what's driving my passion to keep making them. I'm very excited for upcoming opportunities that I'm going to share with all my fans!
